Sandwich Housing Authority welcomes new Commissioners
The Sandwich Housing Authority is very pleased to welcome Richard Johnson as the newest member elected to the Authority’s Board of Commissioners and also welcome back incumbent Commissioner Dan Digiandomenico who was re-elected for a second term.
Mr. Johnson is a former Mayor of the City of Taunton, as well as the former City Manager for the City of Lowell. He's also a former Director of the Taunton Housing Authority and served as both a Chairman and Treasurer of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Authority (MHFA).
Mr. Johnson has been a Sandwich resident since 1999 and lives with his wife and son in Sandwich Village. He saw this position as an opportunity to share his skills and experience in addressing the housing needs of the area. He added that his devotion to public service and talent for bringing people together to solve problems and create new ideas have been the cornerstone of his management philosophy. He also stressed the importance of affordable housing programs to the welfare of the community.
Mr. Digiandomenico is a former IRS Supervisor who currently works as a real estate agent with Jack Conway Real Estate. He has lived in Sandwich for 15 years and has served on the Sandwich Economic Development Committee. He is also active with Corpus Christi Church and the Knights of Columbus where he serves as the Financial Secretary. He is married with a daughter and new granddaughter. This will be his first full term on the Board following his appointment last year to fill a vacancy on the Board.
Mr. Digiandomenico said, “During the past eight months on the board, I have learned much and have truly enjoyed the position. We are currently looking to use CPE money to expand the development of George Fernandez way. It is my hopes that once we have completed this process, we will look for another project to further expand low-income housing in Sandwich.
The Sandwich Housing Authority is an independent governmental entity administered by a Board of Commissioners consisting of four members elected by the voters of Sandwich and a fifth member appointed by the Governor. In addition to Johnson and Digiandomenico, the Board includes Earl Lantery, Vice Chairman Robert Simmons, and Chairman Kevin Flannigan.
The SHA provides family, elderly, and special needs housing at its locations on George Fernandes Way and at Hansen Village on Tom’s Way. The SHA also administers rental vouchers which are utilized by residents in privately-owned rental units throughout the area.
The mission of the Sandwich Housing Authority is to:
• Provide stable, quality affordable housing for low and moderate income persons;
• Deliver these services with integrity and mutual accountability;
• Create living environments which serve as catalysts for the transformation from dependency to economic self-sufficiency;
• Continuously pursue the development of additional affordable housing units whenever financial or regulatory opportunities may exist
